Barcelona are making plans to offer Samuel Umtiti a new deal to fend off potential interest from Manchester United, Manchester City and Real Madrid.
The defender has been in excellent form since arriving at the Nou Camp in 2016, forming an solid partnership with Gerard Pique, and displacing Javier Mascherano from the starting lineup.
However, not only has his form helped Barcelona achieve the best defence in La Liga, conceding just seven goals so far, but it has also started to attract the attentions of some top European teams.
Reports recently have suggested that both Manchester clubs as well as Barcelona’s Spanish rivals, Real Madrid, are interested in signing the Frenchman, who currently has a £50m release clause in his contract, which when compared to the £75m that Liverpool will pay Southampton for Virgil van Dijk, seems relatively modest.
According to Marca however, Barcelona are plotting to open contract talks with the defender in the ‘coming weeks’ as they look to keep hold of the 22-year-old.
Umtiti is currently sidelined with a hamstring injury and faces a month out of first-team action.
