Atletico Madrid to make £42million summer swoop for Arsenal target

Atletico Madrid will make a sensational £42million summer move for Arsenal target Gonzalo Higuain according to reports in The Sun today.

Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone is desperate to land a new striker this summer and is plotting a huge summer bid for his Argentine compatriot after he rejected a new contract at Italian club Napoli.

The former Real Madrid striker has been linked with a big money move away from the Serie A club for a number of months, with Arsenal being strongly linked with making a move for the 26-year old.

Higuain scored an incredible 36 goals in 35 league games for Napoli last season, who are desperate to extend the strikers contract which currently expires in 2018.

Napoli have publicly said they won’t be selling the Argentine for a penny less than his £78million release clause, but privately know that they may need to cash in on him in order to strengthen their squad.

Paris Saint-Germain an Liverpool have also been linked with making a move for the striker, but Atletico will be hoping their opening bid of £42million can steal the lead in the transfer race.
