Manchester United and Aston Villa have agreed a deal to take Tom Cleverley to Villa Park on a season-long loan deal. Cleverley’s form has been dire over the past twelve months, and after getting his chance by Louis van Gaal whilst on tour, it looks as though the 25-year old’s time in the Red of Manchester United is up.
Whilst its always sad to see a youth graduate leave, the time is right for Tom Cleverley to move on. Its a completely different scenario to Danny Welbeck – who seemed to be improving with each game.
Cleverley started his career like a house on fire in the Community Shield against Manchester City, but a string of injuries certainly hampered his development. Since then his performances have been abysmal, and it didn’t make for pleasant viewing.
Villa have the option to make the loan move permanent in January, and it’ll cost them an hefty £7.5million if they do go down that road. However it looks like Tom Cleverley will allow his contract to run down, and have a larger pick of clubs next summer as his United contract expires and he’ll be a free agent.
