Arsenal to finally sign Thomas Lemar

Arsenal are finally set to sign Monaco midfielder Thomas Lemar according to reports.

The Sun claim that Monaco have finally ‘caved in’ and have reluctantly granted Lemar his dream move to the Emirates. Arsenal have been tracking the midfielder for several weeks, but have come up against tough resistence from the French Champions who have already lost several key players this summer.

The Gunners had been previously quoted £80m by Ligue 1 club in a hope it would deter Arsenal’s interest. However that interest has remained strong with claims that they have already agreed personal terms with the player.

Monaco have now reluctantly agreed to sell Lemar for a fee of £45m, a deal which would take Arsenal’s summer spending to £97m.

The Gunners have already splashed out £52m out on club record signing Alexandre Lacazette, as well as the free transfer of Sead Kolasinac from Schalke.

Lemar is hoping that his move to the Emirates could be complete by the weekend.

As for Monaco, their title winning squad has been decimated by Premier League clubs. Tiemoue Bakayoko has moved to Chelsea, while Benjamin Mendy and Bernardo Silva have both switched to Manchester City. There are also reports that they have agreed a €180m deal to allow Kylian Mbappe move to Real Madrid, which combined with Lemar’s switch to Arsenal, would see them have recouped £350m this summer alone in player sales.

I fear Mbappe will become another James Rodriguez if he joins R Madrid this season.
