Arsene Wenger is closing in on the summer signing of Valencia defender Shkodran Mustafi in a deal which could be completed within 24 hours.
Arsenal’s defence has been decimated by a number of injuries ahead of this weekends Premier League opener against Liverpool. The Gunners have been left with just Callum Chambers and ex-Bolton youngster Rob Holding as the only two fit centre backs, after Per Mertesacker and Gabriel Paulista have been ruled out through injury, whilst Laurent Koscielny is not yet fit following Euro 2016.
Wenger has eyed up Valencia defender Mustafi as well as West Brom’s Jonny Evans.
Mustafi’s agent Ali Bulut confirmed the deal, saying:
Shkodran and Arsenal agree. There are only the terms to be agreed on a transfer fee.
It is thought that the deal to take the German defender to the Emirates will cost around £25-30million, and it is hoped that it can be completed within the next 24hours.
