Less than 24 hours after moving from Manchester United, Arsenal have confirmed the shirt number that new signing Henrikh Mkhitaryan will wear.
The Armenian moved to the Emirates in a move that saw Alexis Sanchez move in the opposite direction to Old Trafford in what was a straight swap deal.
He had a difficult spell at Manchester United, scoring just five goals in 39 Premier League appearances during his 18 month spell at the club.
Alexis Sanchez was instantly announced as Manchester United’s new number 7, while Arsenal decided to wait to announce what number Mkhitaryan would be wearing.
However Gunners fans need not wait any longer after the club announced that the 29-year-old will now take over Sanchez’s number 7 shirt.
While maybe not as iconic as the Man Utd number 7 shirt, it still has plenty of history, having been worn my Tomas Rosicky, Robert Pires and David Platt.
Arsenal fans will have to wait a while to see ‘Magic Micki’, as he was dubbed by his former Man Utd team mates, in action however, as he is cup tied for the club’s League Cup semi final tie against Chelsea on Wednesday. He is likely to make his Gunner bow in his new shirt number on January 30th against Swansea.
Arsenal fans will be hoping that he will be joined by his former Borussia Dortmund teammate Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang who has been strongly been linked with making the move from the Bundesliga club.
