2016/17: Fantasy Premier League Gameweek Three Tips

We enter the third gameweek of the Premier League season tomorrow, and with each passing match, us managers are getting a better idea of the teams and players who are performing – and also the faces that are struggling to bring in those all-important points. We’ve got our gameweek three tips for you, to use that sole transfer wisely.

We’ve a few new additions to take a look at first and foremost. Claudio Bravo will be Manchester City’s new number one, but we’d advise against bringing him immediately. He’s no cheaper than the likes of David de Gea and Petr Cech who are both 5.5. I like the look of Javier Manquillo of Sunderland, who comes in at 4.5 and could well start this weekend. Daryl Janmaat at 5.0 is also a solid option after making the move to Watford.

The key battle early on is Sergio Aguero and/or Zlatan Ibrahimovic. At this point in time, if you don’t have either of these guys in your FPL line-up, you’ll find yourself getting left behind rather quickly. In the opening two fixtures both have three goals, Aguero costs 13.1, but after being rested midweek, he’ll be fresh as a daisy. Zlatan Ibrahimovic hasn’t played in eight days, but his fixture away at Hull City certainly looks more difficult. He’s cheaper though, at 11.7.

In terms of defensive options, the Manchester United duo of Luke Shaw (5.6) and Antonio Valencia (5.5) certainly look tempting. Their next few fixtures, coupled with Mourinho’s style of play make the pair solid options for the long-term.

There are a couple of cheaper options coming to the fore early on, too. Gareth McAuley of West Brom sits at the top of defenders in terms of points at the moment, and they have another favourable fixture this weekend – Middlesbrough (H). Another man worth looking at is James Collins of West Ham. Both of the duo will cost you a mere 4.6.

Onto the midfield we go now, and my number one pick would be Raheem Sterling (8.0). He has started life under Pep Guardiola brilliantly and won his side a couple of penalties. If he rediscovers his Liverpool form, that 8.0 pricetag will jump up extremely quickly. Our other choice would be Sadio Mane‘s Liverpool, who’ll set you back 8.9, but will guarantee you points as the season progresses.

The forward slots are interesting. Obviously you have the big hitters in Zlatan and Aguero, but there are plenty of choices aside from those guys. Diego Costa has two goals in two games, and is considerably cheaper at 9.6. That comes with a price though, as he’s a red card waiting to happen so it’s a huge gamble. Alvaro Negredo of Middlesbrough comes in at a cost of 6.7, and with one goal and two assists in his opening two games, he looks in great form.
