£200m Everton takeover edges closer

A £200million takeover of Everton is edging closer, according to reports in the Liverpool Echo this evening, and a deal could be completed within the next fortnight.

The takeover talks which are with US investors, former San Diego Padres owner John Jay Moores and his partner Charles Noell, are said to be at an advanced state, and a finalised agreement to takeover the Goodison Park club are close.

A second party of Chinese based investors are also interested in Everton, but the talks with the American duo are so advanced, that any other proposals will not be considered at this time.

The Liverpool Echo say that Moores and Noell have spent the last six weeks carrying out due diligence on the clubs books, and holding talks with the clubs biggest shareholders, including club chairman Bill Kenwright. The talks are now at a stage where a deal in principle is close to being finalised to buy the majority shareholding in the club.
